LASIK SURGERY - BEFORE, DURING & AFTER
Lasik (Laser-assisted in situ kerotamileusis) is also referred as laser vision correction or laser eye surgery. It is a kind of refractive surgery used for the rectification of hypermetropia, myopia and astigmatism. This surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist who makes use of microkeratome or laser in order to reshape the cornea of the eye to enhance the visual acuity. For many patients, Lasik surgery provides the permanent alternative to contact lenses or eyeglasses. Therefore, some important information before, during and after Lasik surgery is important for patient to have clear eye vision.
Before Lasik surgery
Before Lasik surgery, it is necessary to undergo an eye examination by eye doctor. This examination of the eye helps to find whether the person have risk factors and candidate for the surgery. If contacts lenses are used by the person, before the initial test it is required to take lenses out and use glasses full-time. This information before Lasik surgery is very vital because the cornea shape will be affected by contact lenses. This might lead to inaccurate measurements.
At the time of the initial test that is before Lasik surgery, it is very important to talk about past and present conditions of eyes. It is also necessary to talk about the medicines they take as these can affect the surgery or vision. The doctors must discuss the steps to be taken before, during and after surgery. They need to avoid all creams, perfumes, lotions and makeup on the day of surgery.
During Lasik surgery

During Lasik surgery, both eyes will be cleaned thoroughly, and doctors place numbing eye drops underneath the laser. After the test and confirmation of certain tests, doctors place a lid speculum to keep eyelids open during Lasik surgery. Doctors use the microkeratome or femtosecond laser during surgery to make the corneal flap. After the creation of a flap, microkeratome or femtosecond laser will be removed. They move the flap carefully to expose the corneal tissue.
